Each unit is inspected before dispatch, with particular attention to the finish and the joins. Small differences in grain, tone and weave between individual pieces are expected and are not defects. Wipe with a dry cloth and always isolate the fitting at the socket before fitting or removing a bulb. For safety, fix the canopy to a sound structural ceiling point, isolate the circuit at the consumer unit before work, and have any hard-wired connection made by a qualified electrician.
