We check each one over before it ships, from the finish through to the cable and switch. Natural materials vary a little from piece to piece; that variation is part of the product rather than a fault in it. Keep it out of standing water, wipe it down dry, and give it a stable spot to sit. Switch it off at the socket before changing a bulb, and let it cool first.
